How proofs are made

A private action's proof shows that the Starknet OS ran the action correctly against a recent block. The prover reads the state it needs over RPC, runs the OS, and proves the run with StarkWare's Stwo prover. The proof goes into the transaction, and the pool checks it.

Where

  • Outis's proving service proves every action but deposits, in about half a minute. A proof is a job, so the wallet can close and come back for it.
  • The Starknet Foundation's prover proves deposits, which need the pool's screening signature. Outis reaches it through Starkscan.
  • The device. The wallet can prove in the browser or in the Android app, sending nobody the viewing key. This is off in releases for now: the network only accepts the older proof version, and the device makes the newer one.

Whoever proves an action is sent its viewing key: see Who sees what.
